So, a little bird dropped off a present over the weekend. a 1975 Starcraft with 140 OB, power trim, tilt trailer with rollers.

How can i find out what model this is?

The plan is to get the OB running and try to use her for the next month. Then turn the kids loose on it to strip her down, clean, new transom and absolutely repair/REPAIR the "dash"

Here are some pics:

is it me or does the bimini seem extremely TALL?

Looks like some dis-assembly is required :) At least it will be be done to the way you want it when you are done.

Keep up with the pics and the progress.

the OB. Need to clean the carbs, fuel lines, fule pump, new gas and try to fire her up.
The PO stated it was running last at the end of april this year. I have reservations about that comment. Need to make sure this OB is even worth getting running or if it is a POS that i should abandon. Any thoughts?

Tim unit. According to the PO this works but after a few days it will be back down. So guess this is going to need to be rebuilt.

Some pics of the trailer. It did seem to tow alright, but also the slightest move in the truck and it shook a lot. Not sure it the axle needs to be wider, bigger tires or if it needs weight. Also, the first pic is where the gas tank was mounted in the front but then someone moved it to the back. i think i will be moving back up to the front.

So by the end of next week we hope to have the OB running and take her for a sea trial. Install seats from that i took out of the IMP just to be able to use it for a month or so and then the fun begins.

Sweet Holiday you've got there. Although we've determined in the J/E section that you've got a bit of a "FrankenRude" there, I'd still put some effort into getting it running. A V4 140 is an ideal motor for an 18' Starcraft and should push you in excess of 45MPH easily if it's running right.

first was to clean it out.

then remove the bimini

Biminyremoval2.jpg

looked at the stern and couldn't figure out what was wrong with this picture

Rearportseatbentup.jpg

then it hit me. The jump seats someone had bent up and screwed to the back.

Had to pull them back down and viola, just like it should look now.

then it was to try and get the OB running. First off noticed there was a cap missing on the carb for the jet. that's not right and cannot help the situation

Carbmissingjetcap.jpg

noticed some other fine things like the new CG approved fuel line clamps

Fuellinefmpump.jpg

carbfuelline2.jpg

then the good ole hose clamp for the fuel line almost touching the starter cable.......yee haw

Fuelfilterbystarter.jpg

so now it's off to the OB section to get help trying to get her running..... =

more to come, gotta go on a business trip tomorrow so gotta wait for the weekend for some more fun pics........

Nice looking Holiday. If you can get that motor running good she ought to perform excellent. Looking forward to seeing your progress.

Not sure what mccraney is talking about there:confused:

(Hey rrumba, club meeting on Thursday, cigars and cookies.)

I like how you say "something doesn't look quite right" and then unscrew the seats, kinda struck me funny.

Cheers buddy!

Thursday you say....... well i am starting early with the cigar, like tonight while i read through all the posts and update the Aztec post while on my trip since i cannot work now.....

It took me a few minutes to figure out that the screws were holding the seats up. never quite understand some folks.....

Re: 1975 Starcraft 140 Evinrude OB -- project

ok so a big milestone was reached, the 140 OB is ALIVE.........

I am thinking about using her so i can some fishing in before it is to cold for the water and then start with the face lift. someone has had the cap off before and did not get the splash well secured to the transom very well but thought that A LOT of silicone would hide that fact. I will get some pics posted later on of that issue. The other big one is coming up with a new design for the botched, hacked up dash so i will be searching the starcraft threads looking for some good ideas.

that is the plan for Friday after work........ There is a big lake about 5 minutes away and she will be getting wet then....... I was going to do it today but i have to get the transom filled around the edges, tabbed in and stringers bedded down and filleted in on the IMP tonight before my poly turns to jelly......besides i will then blow off the work to go fish for some stripers and then it is all over for any work getting done.

Re: 1975 Starcraft 140 Evinrude OB -- project

so, i will be replacing the wood for the seats in the pictures below, but since i had them from my old IMP and i was not going to re-use them i thought i would throw them in and see what they look like.

once the new wood is on them and the carpet updated i think the boat will become Gray and black to match the seats. I think i have a plan forming and like the way they look

P7121286.jpg

P7121284.jpg

Here is where the Silicone did not do so well as an adhesive to hold it together and will need to be fixed both port and starboard

P7121281-1.jpg

P7121280-1.jpg

Control box is very corroded and screws sheared off

P7121276.jpg

Got another one of CL for 50 with cables to boot and will get that installed this weekend.
