1975 Evinrude 40hp

Engine model is 40555C.<br /><br />I pulled the boat out yesterday and got the motor running. I changed plugs, cleaned the carburetor, changed the lower unit lube, etc. I started the motor and it seemed to run good then I noticed something. When I rev up the motor it runs really good, but when I let up on it, bursts of air com from the carburetor. Any ideas what might be causing this? Thanks.<br /><br />Jim

Jim,<br /><br />Revving up thos engines in nuetral is not generally a good idea.<br /><br />The big twins will "pop back" on a sudden decel.<br /><br />The test will be, how does it run under load, on the water?

Thanks. I wasn't sure if I just needed to get out and run it some or if it sounded like something more serious. I'll get it to the water here in the next few days and see how it does and post back.<br /><br />Jim
