Good evening everyone, bought this boat right before Christmas and when we tested to motor everything worked as it should, water came out of the tell tale hole ( I think that’s the P.G. Term). Was planning on giving the boat a test run Saturday since the weather was so nice. Hooked the muffs up Friday afternoon and no water came out of nozzle. No biggie, dude said it hadn’t been ran in over a year so I was expecting the impeller to need replacing. So I spent Saturday chasing down an impeller kit and changed it out. When I pulled the lower the water tube came out with it. The impeller that I removed didn’t look bad, wasn’t cracked any or missing any pieces, changed it out anyway and put new seals and lower plate in. Had trouble getting the lower back on with trying to line everything up. Got it all bolted back together, put the muffs on and no water out of nozzle. Some water out of exhaust but the lower exhaust gasket wasn’t in the best shape and the water out the exhaust wasn’t warm. I ran a weed eater line about two feet through the nozzle and no clogs. I’m wondering if I completely missed the water tube hole into the powerhead and all the water is just being pumped into the housing? If so then why didn’t water come out of the tube fri afternoon? How difficult is it to replace the upper water tube seals?

Did you put the water tube into the bottom of the engine before you installed the lower unit ?------The plastic piece where the tube goes in may be damaged.

If the watertube came out of the powerhead you'll have to put it in there first, tip the motor all the way up and look at the rubber seal in the base try and put the tube in place. If it stays put LU back on. There should be a plastic guide tube that helps you get the watertube into LU.(Nr. 35). There is also a thermostat and poppit valve in the powerhead that might have to be replaced. Lower-Unitsdriveshaftsmall.jpg

Since the tube came out with lower unit, I tried to put it all back together that way. IF the rubber seal in the powerhead base is damaged, how difficult is it to replace that part? And what number and chart can I find it on?

I would say that the lower rubber seal got damaged or crimped over when you reinstalled the lower unit, it happens.

You can not properly install a lower unit with the water tube already in the pump !!-----Look for parts on-----exhaust plate-----parts page I think.

Ok so I found the parts on the exhaust plate parts page. I’m assuming that I have to pull the powerhead? How difficult will this be? I have a pretty decent mechanical knowledge but new to working on outboards. The parts I’m looking to order so far are : upper water tube seal, retaining plate, lower water tube seal, thermostat, posit valve. I can pick up plugs here local, anything else that I should add to my list?
