At first pass I have a fuel issue. I tilted up the motor and pumped my bulb. The gass just squirted out where the fuel line connects to the motor. Now to figure out why??

Here's what I found. If I remove the line going to the fuel pump (at the pump side) and pump the bulb gas will squirt out. When I hooked it back up to the fuel pump and then disconnected the line that goes to the carbs and pumped the bulb nothing squirted out from the pump. Now I'm guessing a clog in the fuel pump? Or is it normal not to see gas squirt out?

Maybe the check valves are installed backwards or the out and in lines are reversed - seen it happen!

Maybe I reversed the lines? The line attached is the line coming in from the tank. Not sure why the pic is sideways? Should the line from the tank be on the bottom?

Switched them and fuel came out? I'm a bit puzzled because the pic attached looks opposite?

Well my face is red. Swapping the fuel lines did the trick. Unfortunately the "water jacket gasket" is still weeping around the plugs. The whole reason I did any work to the motor was to fix the leak. It's not too bad so I think I'm going to try some sealant to get it to stop. I did a compression test as well, these are my results... 95,100, 100, 105. I think I'm barely in spec between cylinders 1 and 4 (using a harbor freight gauge). Do those numbers tell me a whole lot? Hopefully in the next few weeks I can get it out on the water to do an actual test run.

After doing some tests (in my driveway on muffs) here is what I have found. For info purposes this is the first time letting it run after the winter/work mentioned in this post. During winterizing I sprayed fogging oil in each cylinder and in carbs.

1. Starts great but seems to run a little rougher than I remember and shaking more than I remember. Q: could this be from starting after the winter?

2. Water didn't start coming out of the tattle tale until I put it in gear and up'd the rpm's a bit. I don't have a tach so not sure on the rpm's. When put back at idle water stops. When I put my hand on the exhaust cover and water jacket it feels fine. Q: is this normal? Could this be because I'm not getting a good enough seal on my muffs?

3. I pulled the plugs after a few minutes of running and cylinder 3 plug seemed to be clean where the others has oily residue. Q: I don't beleave there is a head gasket so unless there is a cracked block letting water in what could be causing this?

4. There seemd to be residue coming out of the exhaust port just under the powerhead/Cowling after I shut it down. Q: I replaced the seal beteeen the powerhead and the exhaust plate (I think that's what it's called). If the gasket didn't seal properly could water be getting into the exhaust and coming out the port? For that matter, if the gasket didn't seal what problems might I experience?

Maybe I just need to get it on the water and let it run a bit?

Any help is greatly appreciated.
