1975 50 hp johnson timing problem

i have installed a new trigger, i now have spark but no start,turn the engine over it popped throw the lower unit,like its out of time please help

From your description, I am thinking you may have a sheared flywheel key.

Did you torgue the flywheel to specs....if you didnt the possibility is you can shear the key....

the key is good and the flywheel is tighten to spec,but it will fire on # 2 cylinder only sometimes. sometimes it will lose spark to #1, most of the time #2 dont fire, it has a new stator, power pack, coils, tigger,rectorfire and the stator and flywheel has been cleaned.

If it's backfiring thru the exhaust, the plug wires or the coil primary wires might be crossed, assuming the key isn't sheared. As for intermintent spark, you'll just have to follow the service manual test proceedures to find out which component is bad.
