I have a 75 15hp model 15R75C johnson. I have cleaned carb, put new NGK B7HS-10 plugs in, new ignition tune up kit, compression is 98 psi on both cyl. Need to know how to properly time the points. also has new key

Start by setting the points at .020 with a feeler gauge. If you want to "fine tune" the ignition, remove the flywheel. Disconnect the condenser wire and the coil wire from one set of points. Tuck those wires out of your way and attach a short piece of wire (10 inches or so) to the points where you just disconnected the other wires. Take out one of the phillips head screws holding the ignition plate and run the short piece down through the screw hole and grab it from underneath the ignition plate. set the flywheel back on loosly but engaged with the key. Hook up a multi meter (set to ohms) to the end of your short wire, slowly rotate the flywheel clockwise until the meter needle jumps, stop, look at the timing marks on the side of the flywheel and the edge of the timing plate. they should be close to lining up. If not, lift off the flywheel and either open the points a bit or close them depending on which way they need to be moved and re-try. Do the other set of points the same way. Tedious little job, but, the motor will be "in time" when finished.

Cool thanks, I did everything but the meter timing I will have to do that. Also is it bad if when I put everything back together under the fly wheel that I had the Mag. to close to the inside of the wheel that it was rubbing it. I didnt notice it till I pulled fly wheel again, it looks like it burned the end of the mag it was touching. I cleaned it with wd40 as well as the inside of the wheel and backed the mag off to where it go's. but now it takes it forever to start and at WOT its barely moving and missing

Sounds like you have cooked a coil. Probably need to replace it. Just be sure the new coil mounts flush with the boss and it'll clear the flywheel at the right distance.

Re:SOLVED- 1975 15hp Johnson question

;)Well the Static Timing with the Multimeter worked. I now have a good running motor although whats weird is that when its in the tank it will start up just fine, but get it in the lake and it takes a while to start, but runs great when it runs.

OMC engines perform better with Champion plugs for some reason.
