So I have been lurking on these threads for two years. I finally bought a boat last April. I love it. I'm going to make a fishing machine. My summer was very busy and I travel every week so I work on it when I can. I have made some progress. I do have a few questions.

So I am really excited to put this out to the crowd because I know I do not know everything.

What is the best way to mark and pre-drill the holes in the transom. I'm afraid after I epoxy it will be too tight to get out. Can I drill once it is in or should I mark then pull it out and drill. I'm going over drill and fill with epoxy.

2nd I have done a ton of research and I want to make this a tiller.

Can I build a bulkhead in a different shape so I can have a Tiller and support the back of the boat? Or is that just plain stupid?

This is fun!

Transom fits! It took a while to get it in but it is a really big relief. Drilling holes in it is scary. The epoxy came in. I have no pump. What is the best way to measure the resin and hardener?

If you want to get an easy way to correctly measure, get a stack of the Red Solo cups from the grocery store. They are made with measurements made into the sides, just google "Measuring with Red solo cup" and it will educate you.

Dollar Store has Plastic Measuring cups CHEAP. Use one for the hardener and another for the Resin. Use Xylene to clean IF you want. I just use em and throw em away. Use the Metric portion to measure SOOO much easier. 500 ml of resin (approx. 2 cups) Depending on your ratio (1-1, 2-1 3-1) your hardener would wither be.(500 ml, 250 ml, or 170ml) of hardener.

:welcome: to the Starmada R&R,

I've never done the over drilling and epoxy resin on any of my boats. I do know the best way to drill the holes through the transom is with the wood out of the boat and laying flat. You have all the side brace bolts, motor mounts and knee brace bolts to drill out. The holes have to go through at the correct angle so drilling them laying out flat is the easiest.

You're going to over drill all of the through bolt holes, fill with epoxy and drill again? I hope you have a drill guide as I can see lots of ways that can go sideways, well at least for me.

So you're going to make an SS into a tiller fishing boat, we have one that was done in the Starcraft section into a tiller duck boat.

I think you're referring to changing the splashwell size to accommodate the tiller set up. There are a coupld active members who've done a SW reconfig too.

Guys thanks for the ideas on the cups. Watermann I'm not talking too much on the over drilling. I'm just going to do enough so I can swab the inside with epoxy and seal those up.

Thank you for the advice on the tiller.

I'm trout fishin this weekend. Boat will be worked on after that!

So I messed up. I read the instructions wrong on the Hardener and mixed up a batch of 1:1. THIS STUFF WILL NOT GET HARD! How in the world will I get it off?

I'm at a loss. Pretty upset.

A paint scraper to start with. That's a bummer. :grumpy:
