1974 Merc ignition major screw up

I put on a new distributor and for got to hook the wire from the coil to the distributor when i hit the key thats all she wrote i get nothing now when i hit the key and jumping the start turns the motor over but no spark. How bad is it? i dont see any fuses anywhere.
extremely let down and ready too give up

also as soon as i turn the key on or off i hear an arcing sound but if i unhook the green coil wire it goes away.

pretty much thats all the coil is doing is shorting too ground just with a spark plug on it
