I recently bought a Johnson 6 hp, after seeing it run perfectly in a tank. Yesterday, I took it out for a first lake run. It started ok, but when advancing the throttle past the start position, it would miss, sputter and stall. I then continued to run at trolling speed for several minutes, trying to adjust the mixture for smoother operation, without success. Trolled for some more and then shut down for some drift fishing. After this the engine would not start. Pulled the plugs after returning home and they weren't fouled, however they were wet with fuel. Anyone have any suggestions as to the problem? I can't get it serviced before next Thursday and the fish are biting.
