I remember as a preteen seeing a Motor run on the Muffs the 1st time, I was in awe of all the places water came shooting out

I’m not getting excited, just trying to get a straight answer. I have been around boats and motors my whole life to some extent. And I’m used to even older outboards having a telltale, that could at least give you an indication that water is being circulated.

You say “water pissing out all over when on the muffs”. It wasn’t on muffs, That’s kinda the point.

I understood when everyone said water would come out of everywhere when running it on a muff under water pressure. I Didn’t expect that when it’s in a barrel since the only pressure is from the impeller. Seems that all of the water would flow thru the engine and exit thru the exhaust slots. Where is all of the water loss coming from? I’ve never seen water coming from the middle of the outboard leg? Am I getting that much water loss thru the pump, that’s it’s pressuring the water in the leg?

My concerns are, a) is there a blockage in the exhaust system that restricting water flow and causing it to back up and pressurize the leg?. b). Did I not get the water lines at the water pump connected correctly, and that’s allowing the pumped water to fill, pressurize, and exit the leg thru the path of least resistance?, thus causing a seemingly low flow from the exit slots.

One last time, the leg, exhaust housing, mid-section, whatever you want to call it, fills up with water when it is running. It fills up with water that has gone through the engine and done it's job. You are seeing only part of that exiting water. The rest of it is going out through the hollow propeller hub, along with the exhaust.

I repeat, the water squirting out forward is a drain hole. If it were not drained off, that filled exhaust housing would sit there, full of water, during storage. Maybe even freeze and bust in cold climates.

That other flow of water from the lower mounts area is from large drain holes, whose job it is to drain off water that has escaped the water pump housing, from the hole that the drive shaft passes through. If it were not drained off, it would rise up in the drive shaft isolation tube and overflow out the top or damage the engine.

If you have all the parts and seals in place, everything is normal. On that score, you will have to tell me if you have it assembled correctly. I can't take it apart and look from here.

I appreciate everyone taking to the time to give the information. Now that I’ve read all the explanations I believe I’m probably going to drop the lower unit and have a look. Want to verify that all visible passages are open, and that all the tubing is connected properly.

I hate when people ask the questions, but never post back the results. So I’ll come back with findings and results later.

Dropped the unit and discovered that I had installed the rubber insert (where water tube from engine engages) upside down. The water tube from the engine, had caught the edge of the seal and folded it into the water path. Luckily I had a new one on hand, reinstalled correctly and it seems to be much better as far as water flow from the exit slots. Next test, the bay...

Get an infrared tester to easily check head temps. Top of the head (will be hotter around plugs).
