Hello all.
this is my first posting on this board. Im glad i found it, looks like alot of info can be found here. Heres my problem
I have a 1974 evinrude 50hp on my 16' sea nymph. I have just got done fixing it up (the boat) the motor is in excellent origninal cond. I just went to run it for a while in my test tank. But i took the propeller off so that it wont spit the water out. As i put the boat in gear (forward) an alarm sounded from the control lever. Loud buzzing sound. Any ieas what caused that?? I am thinking because there was no propeller on it. Any ideas would be great.
:p Tom

Welcome aboard IWANNABOAT.Sounds like an overtemp alarm.Has the waterpump and T/stat been replaced recently? How long did it run in the test tank before alarm sounded?Did the test tank have sufficient water level above the waterpump intake?

Re: 1974 evinrude help needed

thx for the quick response, Yes the water level was definetly above the intake ports. I had it at least up to the exhaust ports. Now as far as the water pump i dont know when it was replaced last. I have not seen any water come out though. It is my understanding the water should be coming out of the lower exhaust ports just above the intake ports. Am i correct. If thats true then i am also assuming i have to replace the water pump :(
Not looking forward to that but i guess its good we found this out before we got on the water.
Thans again
Tom
