Well first off Hi!
This will make my first real post/thread on iBoats... I have had a 1974 Valiant for 5 years now, before that it belonged to my brother, who got it from a lifelong friend of my fathers. This boat has been part of my life ever sense before I can remember! It's always hard when someone wants to buy it and it has just been sitting for over 3 years... I finally broke in and told someone they could have it
so... I pulled it out of the "resting spot" and gave it a quick pressure wash. looks great when wet not so much when dry! But after taking it out and cleaning it up all of the memories flooded back and well long story short I couldn't sell it! The problem with OCD is that once something grabs your attention it has to be dealt with!
So the story begins....
First the bad... it will require a complete tear down (floor is rotten where the old Chrysler Tote-Tanks sat, transom is toast from the oversized/rated outboard, plexiglass windshield is sun cracked, upholstery is toast yada yada yada! So poping the top will be on the top of the list after I make something to hold the motor which is a bit overrated for the boat as is! Ever sense I can remember it has had an 1984 Johnson Sea Horse (70)... great motor that served it's due! But like the boat it is tired and in need of some much overdue love.
I am like a lost puppy dog when it comes to boats! I am a Car/Jeep/Motorcycle guy...which means I will be here a lot asking most likely stupid questions! However I am by no means stupid by my own doing haha I will be looking for more of product recommendations, not for help hooking up a light.
And yes I know I will be putting a lot of money into a 200 dollar boat! But the memories alone are worth more than that to me and my family!
For anyone who helps along the way I want to shout out an advanced "Thank You"!
Doesn't look to bad wet! I did go through the exterior in 2011. I will have more "before" photos soon, we just decided today to move forward on the process!
First question... what is the best grinder setup for taking out the rotten guts of the old girl?
