I hope you can. I have a 1975, 850 without tilt. I'm getting too old to reach back and manually tilt it 😟 is there even a chance to get entire unit?

Your location ?----Parts may be available from Mercury.----Or if you have a good hydraulic shop in your area they may be able to match up any seals / o-rings.------Or ----EBAY may get you a cylinder.

Mercury used to sell a seal kit for the trim cylinders. The piston seal was teflon and required a special tool to install the piston and new seal into the cylinder. The rest of the seals were orings.

If she is leaking around the trim rod, pull the end cap, pull the piston and cylinder out as an assembly, unbolt the piston, leaving it in the cylinder and replace the leaking oring. Just match it up as best you can. It will last for a while.

You can also buy a Trim/Tilt assembly that should improve your performance.

You can also buy a Trim/Tilt assembly that should improve your performance.

That's what I have done with the older Mercs, since the power tilt is problematic on them anyway, is install a CMC PT-130 on the boat and remove the old Mercury tilt. It moves the outboard back, allows you to easily set the height for best performance and fixes all the hydraulic problems with the old tilt and trim cylinder and pump which is hard to find parts for.
