1974 85 hp johnson starting problem

I am having problems starting, i have some spark, but not enough for ignition. When it does start it will not shut off by key, it has to be choked out....any ideas?

Pull the red plug connector at the engine and check for corrosion. Also check all your grounds and wiring on the engine and battery. Next check your ignition switch itself, you can use a multimeter to check the switch. If everything is good, the most probable cause is the power pack.
