Kudos to you full pulling the engine with all the snow and cold weather. That's a tough task with everything froze up.

Thanks guys! It sure has been cold, and the snow makes everything more difficult, particularly ice freezing parts in place. But spring is coming! ( I hope)

Any Ideas on how to remove this steering cable? 2014021295145701.jpg
I tried un threading the large nut on the right hoping it would slide off but no success

You're on the right track. Loosen that nut and pull it out :D

Sometimes you have to give it some persuasion with a block of wood and a hammer. I've not tried it but a little heat might help. There is some grease inside that has gotten hard which is why it's stuck. One time I even had to use a wood dowel to drive it through the tube.

+1 there... might be frozen in there too.... I had to put vise grips on mine and hit the vise grips with a hammer to get it off.

Cj8, I was trying to remove the golden tube from the black bracket, but once the nut got to the end of the threading it would not jump to the smooth section to slide off. Do I need to loosen the silver nut on the left and pull the steering arm out from inside the gold looking tube?

Leave the gold tube on the inner transom mount and loosen the nut on the left to pull the steering rod out.

try hitting the very end of the threads with a fine-wire brush and some WD etc. sometimes the grease-turned-to-rock and crud piles up in the threads as you loosen the nut so it jams near the end.

I had a couple days off so my wife and I visited her parents... and borrowed their heated garage to paint the new trailer :)
Also, bought a sweet kicker.. 1989 Evinrude 15hp. If you recognize it from a certain Islander-turned-SS thread you might be right!2014021395203237.jpg20140214_122952.jpg20140213_163724.jpg

I put some cardboard down and used a newspaper to control over spray which helped a good bit, most of that white on the ground is road salt from the vehicle being parked in there
