1973 starcraft capri

having problems shifting in forward can shift in reverse and can find neutral, and what is the black knob in middle of shifter??

where can I find an owners manual? thanks

Just guessing here, but the black knob is usually for the disengagement of being in gear.
When you fire the boat up the shifter is in the detent position (neutral), push the knob and you can rev up the engine, when its warm back to detent position (knob pops back out) and pushing the shifter handle forward should engage the forward gear.
