New to the forum. I purchased a V174 Bayflite not running. Found that the starter was stuck. Motor now cranks but no fire. Had questions about voltage at + side of coil and if there is only one wire that should be there. Also that the - side of the coil should have ground of course and the wire into the disributor. Is there anything else that can cause a no spark problem. I should mention no spark from coil. Thanks in advance for any info.

Also 40 amp breaker on motor seemed not functional. Jumped the two leads together. Bought as a fixer upper. Voltage at positive side of the coil measured 4.8 volts, curious if that is normal and there is a resistor inline. I have read on some hot rod forums that they run a secondry wire from the starter to the + side of the coil to supply 12volts during crank as well. Not too sure about that?

Nope,... The (-) side should be open until the points close...

Up in the "Adults Only" section at the top of this forum is a thread explainin' points igntion...

Mine looks like this. LOOK kinda like this inside the distributor?
I dont know if the pic showed but it was the thread you told me to look at. I'm confused is that what is supposed to be there? And if I understood you correctly you do not have ground to the - side of the coil, just the wire to the dist.
