Remove the four bolts that hold the lower unit to the midsection. Slightly twist lower unit back and forth while pulling it down and away. The water pump will be right in front of you.
When reinstalling, make sure there is a good o-ring in the groove at the top of the shaft, and smear a bit of grease on the splines. Replace that o-ring if there is the slightest doubt, because failure there will destroy the motor. Also lubricate the water tube grommet in the pump housing. Put everything back like it came apart.
