First time poster so please bear with me.
I inherited an old vbottom aluminum boat from my grandfather which has a 1973 Johnson 20hp Outboard. The original prop was really badly beaten up and bent.
I ordered the QA3150R Quicksilver Black Diamond RH 9 X 10 Aluminum 3 Blade from iBOATS and did the install. Everything looks the same. However, once the boat was in the water and running there was a strange grinding or screeching noise. I immediate returned to the boat ramp to investigate. What I found was that the prop was hitting the body of the gear case. The prop shaft has very little play in and out so when comparing the props I found that the Pin drive slots were much deeper on the new prop than on the original. There is what appears to be a brass thrust washer located just behind the Pin Drive which appears to be in great shape with little or no wear from the original prop. I am not sure if additional shims are required for the mounting or what the problem is.
Please help.
Thank you,
PS, here is the picture I went by when identifying the parts of the gear case.
