First thing is to get it into the water deep enough. It was made to run on a boat, not a bucket. The water pump is in the bulge several inches above the anti-cavitation plate. That has to be submerged before starting the motor.
Water should blow out the hole in the back of the midsection as a generous spray, not solid stream.
Thanks. Had to try it in a big bucket first because just bought it second hand and wasn't sure if it ran. Didn't have enough water in it - water level was about an inch too low. Spurts water now - thanks again. Out on the water tomorrow!
