Hello all. I am attempting to remove the clamp screw from the stern bracket. There is a retainer plate that looks like it is factory pressed on. Is there a way to remove the retainer plate and reuse it after? My other Evinrudes have bolts holding the plate to the clamp screw. Thanks, Rick.

I'd try prying it off.....if neccessary grind with a dremel tool. I'm pretty sure the screw is aluminium so it shouldn't be too hard. A ball peen hammer should put enough of a burr on it to hold it back on. Of course you could also grind a little slot in the screw and find a c-clip to hold the washer thingy on. Just some thoughts. I actually only have one clamp screw on mine.

A new retainer is part number 302420, and is cup-shaped when you get it. It is flattened out with a special tool to install it. However, see the picture for the cheap way.

If you are careful, you can remove the retainer by bending it back to the cup shape and re-use it. That is, if it hasn't been removed before. It can stand just so much bending back and forth.

The picture shows the special tool on the right and the cheapo way on the left. Simply screw the assembly down on a hex nut and block of wood to flatten the retainer. I did it that way for many years, in fact I never did break down and buy the tool.
