Hi new on here and an issue with my 1973 85hp mercury. was cruising across the lake and it slowed and stalled and has not turned over since. all batteries are charged. at a loss. I am not a mechanic but any help would be appreciated.

When trying to crank the motor it will make 2 very short attempts to turn over then nothing.

Bad starter and or battery cables. Bad connections at battery, starter cable ends.
Any way you slice it I think its an electric problem.

If you have jumper cables with you, try using them as a second set of battery cables to make it back in. If the starter is shot you may be stuck unless you can pull start it.
I pulled my old 85 once, just once.
