I have spent the last few hrs reading the posts on trim and tilt problems for 1970s Evinrude motors.
My tilt trim worked great for the last 5 years. Slowly I have noticed that it will drift down under power and i can not plane the boat up like I was once able too. I checked the fluid in the pump and it seemed low. I put in automatic transmission fluid as I was advised to do on a different forum. It just seemed to get worse. I tried to drain the fluid and replace it with Hydralic fluid but it seemed to be foamy. Now after sitting all winter it will not lift at all. How do I know if I have a problem with the seals or the pump. It is not leaking anywhere that I can see. The pump is on the "drivers side" of the boat. I assume that the "fill" and "drain" holes are the only areas to add or remove fluid. My main question is how do I know if its low fluid, foamy fluid, bad seals or bad pump.
