1973 7.5 ign ??

Helping a friend with a 1973 7.5 merc No spark gona check all the grounds first...Just wondering if this old thing has points under fly wheel?

Wondering what the serial # is so it can be looked up.------Some times folks are incorrect with the year of the motor.---A 73 is shown to have the phase maker ignition with breaker points.-----Many part for that are listed as obsolete.---Is there weak spark or no spark.

Look on the side of the motor if it has a black box with wires running to the coil it's a cdi. If the coil wires come directly out from under the flywheel get your checkbook and a manual. Also what color is the stripe the phase maker was generally red and silver or a combination of those 2. CDIs were blue generally. If it's a phasemaker there are things to test before the points. One thing I can tell you is check all the wires carefully because they are known for falling apart.
