1973 50hp changingf water pump?

I have a 1973 50 Hp johnson that needs a new water pump . How do you undo the shifter to drop the lower end/ And are there any other tricks I need to know? Thanks

The shift rod disconnect is under the bottom carburetor. You can see it better if the engine is in reverse.
