1973 25hp Johnson No Fire!

I recently bought a boat with a 1973 25 hp Johnson I can not get fire on one of the two starter coils, can someone help, Iwas told that I needed to get a new Stator is that true! Thanks

Could be bad coils or points. Check this:

you do not have a stator, you have a magneto ignition system. agree with post above.
