I've got a 1972 Mercury 7.5 hp (serial # 3277266) that belonged to my dad that I am trying to get going again. It last ran when I was in high school (almost 30 years ago!). It turns over and compression seems good but no spark.

What's the best service manual for this motor?

A free download would be preferable (because I'm cheap) but I am willing to pay. I see the Clymer's and Seloc but was afraid these would be too generic (like Chilton's). The local library has the Clymer's which I will check out on Monday.

Very important to remember 2 things about that motor.

First, it has a phase MAKER ignition. It sparks when points make contact, rather when they break contact as in a conventional breaker system.

Second, all the wires on these models are of very poor quality, corrosion and actual crumbling of insulation and wires are very common.
Best to replace wires before they leave you stranded.

The Clymer '72-79, 3.5-40hp manual should get you through most issues.
Phase maker ignition is covered on pages 43-44, and pages 165-168.

good luck.

Where would one to find an OEM manual for this motor? I've done a Google search and also looked on ebay but haven't found anything.
