Nice

I went a little crazy with merc outboards... through my quest I ended up with 6...
as of now I have 5 outta 6 going, but the 6th came with my last boat/current project.

If you need a source for a steering link rod, I know where to get one for $12 right now ;) (found by using an old part number)

ETA: never mind, I checked with the seller and he jacked his price way up!
anyways the manual calls for PN: 89638A3
But 89638A1 = the same thing ;)

I knew I should of bought both of them...

Thanks but I am good with the steering link rods...I have several around with all the motors that have come and gone. I like to pair the early (around 1960 before/after) with classic boats and tend to stick with original cable/pulley systems when possible....though finding/getting/making the bolt on adapter for the old motors is a challenge. Speaking of which.....

Check out my pride and joy...a barn find that is currently at my friends( a true Merc expert) ..getting the weird starter rebuilt on the Mark 55E . It is so original it doesn't have cable steering...but rope with wire inside. Yes ...you are thinking why am I not asking him all these questions...He is overwhelmed with his work so I leave him alone to take care of my baby.

Sorry we are moving this thread away now but I just gotta show you the reason why I am slugging thru these restores in order to get to
restore my true keeper.

I love keepin' 'em goin'

Gentlemen,
Your thread is from 2012. However, I just acquired a 1972 Mercury 650 in pieces but attached to a 1970 Larson Lapline and on a trailer. Your thread has already been helpful but I was wondering if you were still up for helping me out by answering questions, sending photos to help me put the engine back together, and providing direction.
I await your reply,
Chipper
