Hello everyone! I have purchased my first boat. It's a 1972 Glastron GT160. It has a merc 1150 on the back. I'll update this post with progress on the boat. Maybe I can even make it down to red wing this year!
I drove a little over an hour to Mora MN from lake minnetonka to pick up the boat.
it was an easy tow home. I still got 16mpg
it fits in the garage...
In that photo you can see an unfortunate hole in the passenger rear. I put a flag pole mount there to cover it. I also mixed up some yellow putty to fill in a few other holes. It matched better when I was mixing it... still better than a hole I suppose. I also redid all the lighting wiring, which now works, and hid/wrapped it so it is no longer visible to passengers.
I took it out for its maiden voyage on a drizzly day out on lake minnetonka. I figured with no one around and an empty boat launch it was a good day to do it. It starts up great and idles fine. However, it does die very shortly after getting up to speed. I started taking it apart to rebuild the carbs and fuel pumps but realized all my tools are metric... I dropped it off with my local marine mechanic and hope to have it back by the end of the week.
i picked up some new seats, as the ones in my boat are completely incorrect. These are far more period correct and should fit well. I will likely have the black redone yellow later this year, or over winter. I'll have to see how it looks in the boat.
