have 1972 evinrude have 2 problems seems to have some problem with selecta switch forward/nuetral/reverse if we put in reverse sometimes it sticks in reverse sometimes you put in forward and get nothing or still in reverse what can we do<br />2. we just paid a mechanic to put in seals in the lower unit because we noticed oil looked milky got boat back used 3 or 4 times checked oil looked ok use again and noticed oil in lower unit looks milky again why whats happening

Take it to the mechanic the put the seals in.<br />When you checked the lube, did you replace the screw gaskets each time? These gaskets are "one-use". The good news is they cost only 2 dollars for 5 of them.

Sounds like the shift plunger ( piston ) is stuck in its bore caused by dirt. These engines are spring loaded to go in to forward when the engine is stopped. When selected in forward there is no power to the shift solenoids. They are a reliable unit when properly maintained. Adrian
