I recently rebuilt my control box are the cabin flooded due to rain. I got everything back in working. Or so I thought. Put the boat in the water and had no forward or reverse. I had them both when I took it out after I rewired everything. All I did after I got it out was mount it back on the wall. I don't remember doing anything else. Is there something I might have missed or a fuse I blew out?

First all what engine are we looking at? A 1972 engine with 'Selectric' would default to forward gear if the system fails.

Very hard for that motor to be stuck in nuetral.-------Are you sure you have the correct shift switch ??-----Did you replace the shift switch ?

All I did was replace the starter solenoid and dry everything out. I even ran the motor after I did all this and it shifted just fine. Not sure what I did.

I wonder if it is the lower unit fluid. I didn't use premium. I used the hivis. I may drain and replace.

The correct fluid is Type C gear oil AKA " premium blend " by BRP.----However it should shift with the Hy-Vis in there.----Is it in forward gear when motor is NOT running ???

It appears to be out of the water. But once in the water it has no thrust. I wonder if the Hy Vis got too hot in the motor out of the water. It has been quite warm here the last few days.

You still haven't told us what motor you are working on. It makes a HUGE difference in trying to answer your questions. There are two kinds of Selectric Shifts, Electric shift and Hydro-Electric shift. Totally different systems. A 1972 shouldn't have a junction box. Is that what got flooded?

I apologize to those who were trying to help. The motor was trying my patience and I had in-laws thrown in to the mix so I hung it up for the rest of the week. I checked it out. The engine is actually a 1964 Evinrude 75Hp.

And that is a totally different system, so ignore most of the advice you have received. Obviously it could be a blown fuse. Or a dozen other things. You will have to get out your multimeter and do some voltage checks. Green wire is forward, blue wire is reverse. No voltage on either wire is neutral. DO NOT under any circumstances allow voltage to get to both green and blue at the same time while running. That is almost certain to cause $$$$$ damage.

As I said in a previous post, look for a blown fuse in the electrical box.

No Title

If it has the original wiring, the fuse is at the ignition switch. However, if it is blown, nothing will work. Won't even crank to start. Or run. If somebody has added a fuse somewhere, then back to what I said, time to get out your meter and do some tests.

BTW, the 60 Amp fuse in the junction box is only for the alternator circuit an has nothing at all to do with anything else.
