1972 electric start

I have a 72 evinrude while changing the waterpump I had to unhook the electric shift mechanism I'm pretty sure I have reassembled everything rite 3 times now and it is still stuck in reverse any suggestions

Are you sure its stuck in reverse? Unless the motor is running and the proper oil in the lower unit it will be in fwd gear.

Yeah it is reverse I put it all together the way it came apart was shifting fine before?

I just double checked it is stuck in reverse I have a manual coming from I boats I ordered today

You have 2 wires going down to the shift solenoids. A blue and a green. With the key on and shift lever in fwd there should be no voltage on either wire. With the shift in neutral no voltage on the blue and 12V on the green. In reverse there should be 12V on both wires.

the wires are doing as you say they should but I disassembled the entire shift sylinoid assembly like an idiot! I think maybe something is wrong with maybe the shifter rod?
