1972 Chrysler 70hp ignition system

I need help, I am trying to get this motor to run, after sitting for 13 years. I have rebuilt the fuel pump, all three needles and seats and the water pump. Also new fuel lines and tanks. The engine starts and runs but real rough and seems to be running real rich. I have readjusted the timing going by the book, statically. When I hook up the timing light to #1 and run the engine, the light flutters irratically (not your normal timing light "pulse"). It seems to get worse the more throttle I give it. When I try to go to full throttle it just bogs down, it gets to about 1000 rpm if that. I have also ckecked the point gap, and it is .014. Could this be just a bad distributer cap, wires and rotor or the ignition coil and module. Any help is great Thanks Stew

Put the motor back where you found it and Find a nice Johnson 60 or 70. The chryslers were a terriable motor and very pickey. When the motor said 70 it accutly ment like 55 Hp. they were very over rated. If you really want to get this white elephant running try squeezing the primer bulb when your trying to go to WOT and its bogging down. If it springs back to life that means you have a fuel delevery problem. If that dosnt work do what i did to my Chrysler 105. I gave it a good kick off the back of my transom into the lake.

Didnt see fuel pump rebuild on the things you did. 18-7806 is the kit and availible from Iboats or NAPA for about 9 dollars. If you did not put rebuild kits on them carbs I would do that as well. Part number 18-7037 and cost about 15 per kit. Are the plugs on your motor center fire or the type with the electrode you can gap? If it is a two cylinder plugs should be a champ L82C. If a three cylinder they should be L20V

I rebuilt the carbs and fuel pump, and the plugs are L20V. I'll try the primer bulb to elliminate fuel system. Seems like ignition system to me Thanks for the response.
