1972 9.5 hp Johnson outboard question

I recently obtained a used Johnson 9.5 hp Seahorse outboard made in 1972.

My engine has a problem of jumping out of gear when the engine is revved up.

What could be causing that and how can I fix it?

Is it actually jumping out of gear? Do you hear a bang and/or do you have to physically put it back in gear? If so, you have a worn clutch dog.

Not sure.

The man in the shop says it does that.

If "the man in the shop" is a marine tech then I assume you have a worn clutch dog. You will either have to dismantle the gearcase and replace the parts or buy a another used lower unit.
