Hi,
I believe I have a 1971 Merc 650 lightning. I am relatively new to boat motors so I am sorry if I use the wrong names. I am unsure of the year. The serial number and information are unreadable, they are located on the top ot the motor towards the back. First thing, I took the front cover off that the electronics mount to, because I wanted to clean the carbs. I didnt know how long it has been sitting. I never ended up cleaning the carbs because it is almost impossible to remove them without removing the distributor, and I didn't want to meas with timing. I got it started and seems to run fine, but water leaks out of the water cavity cover on the side of the motor. There is also a tiny bit of water around the top two spark plugs. I used a boroscope to look in the cylinders, and there was no water. I also did a compression test, and these are the results. From top to bottom cylinders 70 psi, 75p psi, 70 psi, 75 psi. I don't know what 2 stroke boat motor compression is supposed to be, but it seems good that they are all within 5 psi. So my questions are:
Where can I find either the manual as a pdf, or for free somewhere.
Where can I buy a gasket for the water cavity cover?
Has anyone had the same issue with the head, and water coming from the top?
Thank you!
