Well the resto on the 87 Four Winns in winding down and figured I am going to need something else to do on rainy days. This canoe was bought by my father new in 1971 and I couldn't begin to tell you how much use this has seen in the last 40 years. I think she deserves (Needs) some repair.

There are some areas that I attempted to repair many years ago with gorilla hair, stopped the leaks but just a cheap band-aid.

There is a lot of spider cracking in the gel coat

Planning on sanding down the entire canoe to remove the gel and repairing any gouges.

After the hull repairs are done I was thinking of using a light cloth, maybe 4 oz or so, and skinning the outside then gel coat.

Any thoughts or comments are welcome

There must be many good memories in all those scars.

To keep it light you should use epoxy if you plan (need) to cover it with a layer of cloth, cloth won't work all that well if you use polyester resin. Since gel coat doesn't stick that well to epoxy you'll need to paint it, to fill the weave of the cloth you can put an extra coat of epoxy and then a fairing compound if you want the surface to be nice.

I realy wanted to gel coat it since that is what it had from the factory, my goal is to restore to original.
What could I use to repair the hull so I can just gel over it and it will stick? I have poly resin left over from another resto. Should I fill with PB, sand and gel?
