Hello, I am new to the iboats forum and I have a few questions that I hope to get pointed in the right direction. I recently purchased a 1971 Checkmate MX-18 with a Mercury 150 hp engine. The question I have is that the original fuel tank has been removed and I would like to replace it but I'm having trouble finding the specifications to order a new one. Also, the trim and tilt will not lift the engine? The motor runs, so I know there isn't an issue with power. But will not move the engine. Could this be a simple flush and fill with new oil or something major?

Thank you as any help is Greatly Appreciated!

John.

Unless you are planing on getting a fuel tank cuatom made, just measure up the space for the tank and the location you want for the fuel filler. Then find a tank that will fit.

I'm doing a rebuild on my MX-16. here is how I placed the fuel tank.IMG_5085.jpg
If the trim motor doesn't spin it may be shot.

Hi and welcome John,
You can also pose the question of your tilt/trim problem here...Mercury & Mariner Outboards
One possibility is that the fluid is low or it has leaked out...there are specific procedures used to check/verify...the guys on the Mercury Engine forum will point you in the right direction...you can also get a Service manual for your Engine Family and look up the details...
You might also be able to find some info by checking on YouTube or Google...
Best of Luck,
