1971 4hp mercury outboard

I hope im in the right section, I have a 4hp merc, it was shifting from neutral to forward and back without any problem as I was fixing the recoil I switch from neutral to forward (not sure why i did that) the engine not running, and now I cant get it to go back into neutral. any thoughts on whats going on with it.?

Thx for the reply Scott, is there an easy way to get it back in neutral or am i looking at taking the bottom end apart? thoughts?

Turn throttle grip to lowest setting and see if it will shift.

thx racerone, I pulled the prop and prop shaft out and the shifter moved back to position, reinstalled the prop shaft and prop, turned the motor one complete rotation by hand and all is well. thx for the input guys.
