1970s Evinrude 7.5 hp
I have an Evinrude 7.5 hp and the recoil spring is shot. I have a parts motor that has a good recoil but when I went to remove the damaged spring it seems to be attached to the base. How does one remove that spring?

If I remember correctly, there is a slot in the base that the spring goes into.
Can you post a model number?

Post a model number or pic. If it's got a metal cover, it's a late 50's model, if it's a fiberglass/plastic cover, it's an '80's. Totally different recoil setups.

I don't think they did, I assumed it was a newer model 7.5 hp.
But we all know what happens when we assume something.

Sorry guys, your right it is the 80s model 7.5 with the fiberglass cowl. I actually figured it out, it was 2 bolts at the bottom of the re-coil. I now have the challenge of getting the new spring to sit in the slot. I think it is just going to be a matter of a lot of trial and error.
