I am debating putting in the polyethylene boards to replace my current rotted out floor. I have also considered putting in fiberglass grating as a floor replacement option. I also like the idea of the plascore stuff. My current floor rotted out and is delaminated and the original fiberglass was poorly applied. Anyone used these as a replacement for wood in your boat?

Nope, no-one.
Too heavy, too weak.
Ext grade PT ply, properly glassed is stronger and lighter.

PT plywood is extremely heavy and wet. I would use 5/8" CDX ext plywood. jmo

Welcome to iBoats,

Your boat is 40 yrs old. Hard to tell how long the original deck(boats don't have floors) lasted but I bet it was good 10 yrs ago so that means it lasted 30 yrs. If you build another one using todays improved methods and products, I guarantee you that it will last that long again. R U planning on keeping it another 30 yrs? If you use 5/8 " ext grade Plywood with Poly resin and 1.5 oz mat on Both sides and then finish the top side with a layer of 1708 cloth and resin, you'll be able to pass her along to your kids with NO problem.

The idea of dealing with wood again after ripping it out does not sound like the best thing to deal with. I have found the fiberglass grate from McMaster and Car that I would just need to put in without any treatment as option. http://www.mcmaster.com/#grate-decking/=awa9u3. I have also researched the plascore stuff and just coat it with fiberglass and resin and I have a minimal worry about it going bad due to water intrusion. http://www.plascore.com/product-honeycomb-cores.htm#aluminumcores.

How about a non wood alternative that you could suggest with non-skid ability due to I have small children? I need to keep them from slipping and not gonna use carpet.

I have been reading more posts and I do want to make sure that I have positive drainage as well. I will post pictures of my progress so far of ripping up the fiberglass from my deck.

Lots of threads on that here. There are non-slip coatings like Durabak or Kiwi Grip or even paint with sand in it. I used marine vinyl on my boat and I'm a big fan of it. It has a deep texture and is very non-skip.

So the way I should go about it in your opinion is that I should buy sheets of plywood and woven roven them with some epoxy resin and put on either marine vinyl or kiwi grip, or the duraback and still keep at a reasonable price?

I like the idea that you gave me about 5/8" ext grade with the poly resin and 1.5 oz mat and the layer of 1708 cloth and resin. Do you have any experience with the woven roven is that a suitable substitute with epoxy resin over it?

Ayuh,... That'll work, but leave a rougher texture...

The picture you have there strongly resembles what I am dealing with wood wise in the deck. I still need to inspect my stringers and my foam.

I am interested in the rougher texture and plan on putting either the vinyl or kiwi grip or the duraback on it to ensure I have a nice non-slip texture on it.

Seaswirl new findings in addition to my rotten deck

Seaswirl new findings in addition to my rotten deck

Removed the steering mount due to my steering cable was bad and found out that the new steering mount does not fit the holes so I need to replace the backing in my console due to the size of the holes. I will need to remove the old wood and replace with a new piece without harming the fiberglass exterior of the console. The deck in my boat has finally dried so that I can do a better assessment of the condtion of the rest of the deck and examine my center stringer.

If ya post on your thread, it comes back to the top...

Sometimes, ya don't get a responce, other times ya do...
Startin' a new thread with only a comment or 2, just leaves everybody scratchin' their head, wonderin' what the 'ell yer talkin' about....
