i have a 1970 mercury 9.8 with the tiller handle and i would like to put on a control box so i can control it more easily (im using it on a mini-max/sea flea boat). so my question is, what kind of controls i should get and where can i get them? im planning on just running a rope and pulley steering system for ease and cost effectiveness. so any advice or input would be greatly appreciated :) thanks!

Try going to www.boats.net and follow the links. Fairly easy to understand .You will need to know Model and or Serial # for your motor....As for the steering rope and pulley may not be as cheep as you think check out the steering packages as well :)Good Luck

Re: 1970 merury 9.8 control box

I am in similar situation, I built a seaflea and have a merc 9.8 early 80's vintage. how do you hook up the remote control cables to throttle and shifter - do you need some type of conversion kit ? I have a 70's merc throttle with cables but the do not fit... any suggestions welcome.

thanks
