I have an old ski boat that has been taken care of and in the same family since it was new. However a few years ago it was neglected to be winterized and the engine block cracked. It really needs a new motor.
It has an old mobile 165 in it. Also needs a new floor. There are soft spots under th e vintage green carpet.
I really want to bring this boat to the way it was. Problem is no one around me says they can work something this old.
Any advice on how or who might be willing to restore. I live in South central Mo close to Mtn Home Arkansas. Just tired of it sitting in my shop. Need to use or get rid of.

If you have to hire a shop it will be expensive.----That is if you can find a shop to take this on.-----Need to study numerous threads on this site to see what is involved.----Lots of work.---Lots of money for quality materials.-----Lots of satisfaction if you do it right

Thanks. I am willing to do what it takes. Just no luck finding anyone wanting this project. I will keep on the look.

you realize that if you do the work yourself to bring the boat back, you are looking at about $5000-$6000 in cost and about a year of your time assuming you spend every hour not at your job working on it. Most restorations take a better part of two years

that is $2500-$3000 for restoring the hull and $2000 for a remaned motor from your local machine shop (assuming they have a block), plus having the seats redone. the price may go up if you need more done.

however if you are looking to pay someone to restore your boat, you will most likely pay about $25000-35000 if you can find someone to work on it as you will have to pay shop rate. If you pay for the whole project up-front, you may find a shop willing to work on it. however most shops wont work on anything they cant immediatly sell to recoup their money should the owner not want to pay the bill. There really isnt a market for old boats, which is why most shops would be leary of taking on such a restoration.

the soft spot in the floor also means the stringers and transom are shot. the seats are most likely using wood as a substrate, so they will need to be redone.

cracked block also means the exhaust manifolds are cracked.

Thank you for response. It’s a shame ! Boat was running great prior to the engine block crack.
I will check the links.

----B.O.A.T.----Bring on another thousand.-----On my project the epoxy alone was more than what was paid for the boat.
