Hey guys new to iboats but seems to be best fourm on the web for outboard help so i joined but anyways im having trouble to idenifiy my motor i know its older 70s motor i got it free from my uncle from his old bush camp been there for few years was in couple peices but i got it all back together and had it running for bit seems to be right dirty so i wanna get a carb kit and pump kit for it but dont even know year parts to buy for it so thats my question how do i tell differences of them it didnt have no seiral numbers thats i can see beside one on top the t stat retaing plate 3127?? if i get some pics maybe someone help me out? I do have a pump kit for an 83 7.5 johnson seahorse would that be the same?? plezz help really wanna get back on the water thanx for replys and everone looking

look on the engine its self. you will be looking for a freeze plug about the size of a half dollar. we need those numbers.

Should be a tag on the transom clamp with model and serial number. The welch plug on the powerhead may have the model number, but more than likely just the serial number if it's a Johnson.

Is the engine painted green or white? White means 77 or newer. Green is 76 and older.

Does it have an overboard water indicator (water pump tell tale)? Indicates 77 or newer.

What ignition system, CDI or magneto (points)?

You may have to do what I did and go through parts diagrams and match what you have to the year of the diagram. Previous owner of mine switched the transom clamps and never switched the model tag. I thought I had a 77 at first. I later narrowed it down based on the diagrams and also the paint job and decals on the hood (assuming original hood). There were subtle changes between the decal and some internal parts from year to year. Mine is a 72.

Its white i know thats and its cdi like ski doo no points on it so im asuming on what you said its a 77 to 79 because 80 the were 7.5 Ill go take a look at where yous guys told me to see what its says thanx agin for replying

The 6 HP model was produced until 96, not 80. The 7.5 was its own engine.

Definitley a 77 or newer. Let us know what you find for model numbers

Hey guys sorry about delay i was on vacasion just got back so i got all the numbers off my motor on the freaze plug it say " 08026950 " i have bunch other numbers too i found on the motor there was to sest of numbers on the clamp the one on the right side not throttle side was "312063 D3" and on throttle side it says "324858 D5" also got one off the handle of the motor says "389624 D" under it I also have few more but i dont think they would be any help there on top t stat and under the bottome of the motor where the shifter is says "24483" and also have numbers of one of my cdi but dont know if they would help But ya does any of these numbers indacate the year i really need to know i wanna order parts today thanx alot my fellow boaters thanx for all the great info and help also wheres is the welch plug on the powerhead i dont even know what that parts is or where thanx agin
