My boat only has tilt. No Trim. Can I get something a little newer with a trim? I have a Ford 302 engine.

there is/was a 280 with power trim, but they are uncommon. converting to a newer style outdrive could be costly but anything is possible. what result are you hoping to achieve by adding the power trim?

Being able to drive in shallow waters. I was not aware outdrives didn't have a trim mode. What outdrive should I look for?
Thank you for your reply

You need to find a 290 set up. The 280 trim system was a PITA the way the trim cylinders were and the hydraulic hoses. Your engine will connect up to it with no problem.
The only other alternative would be to find a Mercruiser from 1976- 79 that used the Ford engine for the flywheel housing and drive coupling. Someone makes a transom plate adapter that converts the Volvo cut out for a Mercruiser.

Hi Kenny. Can you please tell me exactly what I will need? The whole assembly from the block or just the mid section.... Appreciate your guidance

Are there any boat salvage yards in your area? If you can locate a rotted out hull with the engine combination that I posted you may be able to piece it together. Try to stay with a Volvo set up first. It does not have to be a V8. The attaching parts on a 290 drive can be swapped around to re use your V8 lower from the 280.
If your current tilt system is working correctly the tilt will hold the drive up for shallow water at idle speed. Try that first before you give up on the 280.
If you find a 290 set up get a genuine Volvo service manual for it.
