Hello all,
My motor is a 69 Mercury 650 65 HP 4cyl 2 stroke and I am currently having a no spark issue. Long story short I have to replace my switchbox. My switchbox is a 333-3213A3 which is a 4 post box ( Red, White, Blue, Green) and was wondering if i can swap it with a 332-2986 (7 post) being that that model is a newer model. I’m not sure if that is possible but did not want to purchase one if it will not work. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The switchbox you have now is used with the Lightning energizer which generates the power to activate the box, the other type uses 12v to generate the spark and a trigger system to fire the coil. They are not the same.

Then that means that my test was not done correctly. I jumped the red and white on my switchbox and tried to re-enact my distributor. Is there a way to simulate that outside the motor without that fancy unit that everyone talks about.

First you have to wire it correctly - the wires are color coded red to red terminal etc. Have you opened the ignition driver to see if the rotor and cap are in good condition? You unbolt it from its adapter and remove it.1975-500small.jpg

Yes sir I have, I actually completely removed it to clean it up and clean up wiring from ignition driver. As usual the wire coatings were gone. The wiring diagram you attached is exactly what I have been needing because I could not find the correct schematic to fit the parts that are on my boat. But my year and model do not match the diagram, is that a problem?
