1969 johson 55 hp running hot

boat gets hot after 5 minutes of full throttle but doesnt get hot half throttle and below. what is causing this?

First thing to do is check your water pump.

water pump seems to be working. i have ran it for hours today on half throttle and never got hot. its only at high speeds for extentsive periods of time.

When's the last time it was replaced ?? They do ware out.
