Don't take offense at this question, but did you use the correct solenoid or did you go to the auto parts store and get a car solenoid? There is a world of difference and a car solenoid will instantly blow the safety switch.
OK, having resolved that, ASSUMING you have the correct one, check the voltages at the two small terminals on the solenoid. When the key is turned, there should be 12V on one and zero on the other, and it should click and starter should run. If voltages are normal, and it clicks, but starter doesn't run, there is a cables problem or the solenoid is no good.
1. No click, voltage on both = the safety switch is blown, or out of adjustment, or throttle set too high.
2. Clicks, voltage on both = it has a car solenoid. And it has probably blown the safety switch. And there is a cables problem too.
3. No click, no voltage on either = trouble is somewhere between the battery and solenoid, including the key switch and FUSE. OR motor i not grounded---check the cables!!!
