Can anyone guide me to a problem I am having with my outboard. Love the motor but this year I can't get it to start most of the time. It is getting gas, and sometimes I noticed a low spark? What is this Motorola ignition box do in the back? Coil, though, cracked cover checks out fine with meter. It won't start with starting fluid either sometimes. Once started, it runs for 15 minutes and then dies and doesn't want to start. Carb is fine and choke works. Help?

Thanks

The Motorola thing is an "Ignition Amplifier". It converts 12 volts from the battery to 300 volts and stores it in a capacitor till it is time to fire a plug. At that time, a set of breaker points under the flywheel sends a signal to the amplifier to discharge that 300 volts through the coil, where it is boosted up to several thousand volts to fire the plug.

Now that you know all that, pull the flywheel and check the points. And replace that cracked coil.
