1969 Evinrude hydro elec shift rod

Hi guys,
Have a question for you...
I need to find the rod that goes through the solenoids 0580776 assembly. I have the solenoids I just need the rod. It broke at the bottom where the spring is. Any suggestions?

The rod is part of that solenoid assembly, and it is quite pricy at $350.00! It is item 54: http://www.marineengine.com/parts/johnson-evinrude-parts.php?year=1969&hp=55&model=55ES69C&manufacturer=Johnson&section=Gearcase+Group
Best bet is to find another gear case that has a good rod, or have a machine shop make the rod.

Thats what I was thinking, Its a simple 1/8" rod. Was hopeful that some one might have one somewhere.

I believe the whole thing comes as an assembly. That's why so expensive. I'd still keep looking for a rod.
