1969 Evinrude 33 HP water pump pee hole

Good day all
Firstly I'm new to boating, I have just purchased a 1969 Evinrude 33 HP outboard, its model number is 33902A. I have changed both spark plugs, checked for spark, checked all the throttle linkages, lower unit and did a compression test, Both cylinders was reading 106psi. I then prepared to start the engine for the 1st time. I connected the fuel line and noticed that the carb was overflowing, I opened and check the float level, eventually I got the carburetor to stop overflowing, I started the engine and it was idling a bit rough. I did some adjustments on the high and low needles and got to idle, however the power head had a constant shake. I notes that i had water coming from the exhaust and below the power head, it seems that there is a second pee hole on the starboard side of the engine and the water was pumping a constant stream. is that correct for these engines to have 2 outlets for the water pump? Also im struggling to find spare parts here in south africa, is there maybe a store that ships to south africa?

Somebody might have added a pee hole. Seems like they just can't stand not watching something pee.

F_R----We understood how these motors worked back then.-----I do not recall any customers asking to get a tell tale ( pisser ) installed 40 / 50 years ago.

Thank you for your valuable information, Will it be safe to keep it as is or will it cause problems in the future? My other question is what causes the powerhead to shake? I have a feeling it might be something to do with the carb, I have noticed if I set the the high and low needles to spec the engine doesn't want to start, I can get it started with the high needle about 1/2 turn out and low needle about 1/4 turn out.

The lower needle is for full throttle operation.---Set at about 3/4 turn out.----The upper needle is for low speed operation , set at 1-1/2 turns out.----This allows the motor to start and keep running.---You must adjust after that for best operation out on the boat.-----Lower one first then slow boat down and adjust upper one.------But before you do all that see if spark will jump a gap of 6 to 8mm on a test device.----Home made works here.----My guess is that motor is running on just 1 cylinder.

Hi racerone, here is some pics of the pisser, its situated right behind the shifter lever, I'm currently busy stripping all the paint of the engine as it needs a new coat of paint.

Not what you are thinking. That is a grease (Zerk) fitting for lubricating the shifter shaft.

I have no idea. Perhaps somebody drilled it to create a pee hole. Pretty clever, I suppose. the water tube is inside the bulge below it.
Anyhoo, it didn't come that way.

Thank you F_R, I will post pictures of the engine once its painted in a couple of weeks. Next weekend I'm planning to check the points to make sure that I'm getting enough spark, I need to find out why the powerhead is shaking when its idling. Thanks for all the information.
